About Us

We’re a Non-Profit Organization

Break-Through Centre is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO) with a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) status.  Our objective is to provide services that seek to empower, build resilience and stimulate the untapped potential of the vulnerable beneficiaries so that they can be enabled to improve their appalling living conditions.  Our aim is to better the plight of vulnerable children, adolescent and young people (AYP) in our communities by mainly focusing on fighting the impact of HIV and AIDS and Poverty through the provision of psycho-social support services – by making use of sports, arts & recreational activities –, educational and material support, youth and women empowerment programmes, parental skills, child protection and mentoring / life skills services.  We provide these services through a home-based care & support system with the intention of getting them out of the vicious cycle of poverty, vulnerability and pain.  We deliver these home-based services in Ward 51, i.e Tshongweni, Nhlapo Sections and the neighbouring informal settlements as well as in Zonkizizwe, i.e Ward 61 & 62.

Our services want to enhance the capacity of vulnerable people to function optimally as they interact with their environment.

Development and Growth in the Organization

Our involvement in working with vulnerable children, youth and families has unequivocally led us into providing victim empowerment programmes and services, because by virtue of working with vulnerable communities it is therefore inevitable to provide services of empowerment.

In 2020 we implemented a women empowerment program (WEP) for at-risk women by facilitating a 4-hour weekly training session in basic business skills, thereafter after-care support for the group to set-up an income generating projects /activities, to stay active and operational. The groups formed are still functional and we continue to provide support to their project of making fabric softener and handbags through recycled material as well as food garden.
